I've started twittering at twitter.com/bizcuit Simplicity is a beautiful thing.
I was watching "knocked up" and this incredible song comes on.
I googled the lyrics, went to I-tunes spent 99 cents and now I'm listening and listening and listening.
If you hate the taste of wine
Why do you drink it until you're blind?
And if you swear that there's no truth and who cares
How come you say it like you're right?
Why are you scared to dream of God
When it's salvation that you want?
You see stars that clear have been dead for years
But the idea just lives on
In our wheels that roll around
As we move over the ground
And all day it seems we've been in between
The past and future town
We are nowhere, and it's now
We are nowhere, and it's now
And like a ten minute dream in the passenger seat
While the world was flying by
I haven't been gone very long
But it feels like a lifetime
I've been sleeping so strange at night
Side effects they don't advertise
I've been sleeping so strange
With a head full of pesticide
I've got no plans and too much time
I feel too restless to unwind
I'm always lost in thought as I walk the block
To my favorite neon sign
Where the waitress looks concerned
But she never says a word
Just turns the jukebox on and we hum along
And I smile back at her
And my friend comes after work
When the features start to blur
She says these bars are filled with things that kill
By now you probably should have learned
Did you forget that yellow bird?
How could you forget your yellow bird?
She took a small silver wreath and pinned it on to me
She said, "This one will bring you love"
And I don't know if it's true
But I keep it for good luck

Trees down, power lines down
We just got hit by a big storm in Indianapolis tonight.
A tree went down over on Crestview and 57th taking a power line with it.
Power is out everywhere from Kessler and Keystone down to our block but because we are on a different circuit our power is not out. The people across the street do not have power. Usually it's the other way around.
We called Martha across the street to see if she was okay and asked if Mildred was safe as well. It turns out that Mildred died last December. She must have been around 96 years old.

rivets, rivets, rivets
Have you ever grown tired of bureaucracy?
Here's a good passage to relate to from Joseph Conrad's "Heart of Darkness"
and later on after several additional references to the non-delivery of rivets.
Have you ever grown tired of bureaucracy?
Here's a good passage to relate to from Joseph Conrad's "Heart of Darkness"
What more did I want? What I really wanted was rivets, by heaven! Rivets. To get on with the work -- to stop the hole. Rivets I wanted. There were cases of them down at the coast -- cases -- piled up -- burst -- split! You kicked a loose rivet at every second step in that station-yard on the hillside. Rivets
and later on after several additional references to the non-delivery of rivets.
I had given up worrying myself about the rivets. One's capacity for that kind of folly is more limited than you would suppose. I said Hang! -- and let things slide.

I noticed that pages displayed in IE always looked better that they did when rendered in Opera. Here's why.
Why does IE display better than opera
Finally figured it out, should have done a Google search in the first place.

Update : Saturday night
We went to the new downtown library in Indianapolis this afternoon. It's a pretty cool building. I went up to the 6th floor and read part of a biography about Howard Hughes and gazed out at the city.
Doreen got the latest Harry Potter book in German and Mary got some books on knitting.
We went to the Rathskeller and I ordered a big plate of sausages and washed it down with a Spaten Optimator.
We saw a few quotes on the wall and I will leave them here:
"Die Maessigkeit ist gut und fein doch darf sie nicht unmaessig ein."
"Temperance is well and good but it must not be intemperate."
"Ernst is das Leben heiter ist die Kunst"
"Life is serious but art is joyous"

Interesting polling data
latest info on Barack vs HRC race
http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/election2008/poll-tracker.htm
This is a site that aggregates all the different polls going on and generates a trend line.
It's pretty cool to play around with the controls and generate custom plots.
Tonight we will be checking out the downtown library and then going to eat at the Rathskeller.

Happy New Year
It's New Years Day and I have a complaint.
A new mayor for the city of Indianapolis was sworn in and I am unable to find any video of the event. I can't watch any local news on the TV due to college bowl games but more suprising is the lack of any Internet content from our wonderful local news providers.
fox 59 - no mention of the new mayor's first day in office
wrtv6 - ditto
wthr - ditto
wish TV - actually has an article on the new mayor's swearing in but no video
I realize that today is holiday but this is the first time we've had a new mayor in eight years and everyone appears to be snoozing.
Maybe the "I-team" is too busy out investigating spontaneously combusting dustbusters.
yawn....
